MARIO RIVOLI

"Google Me", the sole text on his business card, sums up this mischievously witty artist. An inveterate collector of tramp art, Bakelite, pop cultural artifacts and fake food, Rivoli fairly vibrates with sly creativity. A New York City native who relocated to Denver after a local bus driver treated him with courtesy; he makes his home in a building that has alternately served as a drafting school, laundry and Pentecostal church. This layered environment serves his "controlled chaos" well and fosters his "maximalist" bent.

Chockablock with beloved collections that serve as inspiration, as well as the found materials with which he creates his artworks, Rivoli, a seasoned muralist and collagist, is currently concentrating on glorious beaded flowers, precipitated several years ago by a stash of 1930s French examples found at Marshall Field, the venerable Chicago department store. The sparkle of Rivoli’s flowers, assembled from various types of glass beads and bits of costume jewelry, are matched only by the twinkle in his eye.
