SHINJI NAKABA
Following careers as clothing designer, hairdresser, shoemaker and graphic designer, Japanese-born Nakaba began fabricating jewelry in 1974. He considers all materials equally suitable for jewelry, utilizing precious metals, gemstones and superlative cameo-carving along with found materials such as recycled beer cans and water bottles. In 2007 he had a solo exhibition at the Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry in Tokyo, where he is also represented in the permanent collection. His jewelry is also in the collections of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Montreal and Museum of Arts and Design, New York.
